Throne of Iron – Adventure Two Review

Throne of Iron – Adventure Two Review

“Adventure Two” commences with “Denied” whose fine slow guitar phrasing which made me wonder if it was the speed the band really wanted. In general, these kind of phrases are performed faster in order to give them more emphasis and to show some prowness. However, by the other tracks in the album I realized Throne of Iron really wanted it that way.

To some extent, by taking a look at the line-up and by the music I am listening here, I guess Running Wild‘s piracy era pop up as a main reference for the album, even though I find Throne of Iron more melodic. The way the songs are built do remind Running Wild‘s way of building up their songs. It is the impression I get. Vocalist and guitarist Tucker Thomasson’s ton of voice is very personal and that gives the album a push up.

It is fair enough to say “Adventure Two” is album well-connected with its peers of Epic Heavy Metal with the intent of making the song as grand as possible. The melodic guitars go their way to prove point. However, I would like to point out that sometimes the music in here sounds a little off as in album warmer “Denied” when some phrasing seemed to be out of tune. The guitars in “Detect Evil” would be a great example, not because they sound out of tune, but their overtone sounds a little off. However, in fact, I am fed up with all the perfect albums Metal music is outting out these days. They lack the human factor, that would be some small failures, some minor mistakes that only make the music warmer. I could feel this cozy warmth with the album. Today’s music with all the Pro Tools programs and things got so perfect, perfect beyond my comprehension. Too perfect, if I may say.

I have to say the music in “Adventure Two” is pretty dynamic with lots of shifts in tempo and cadence and by introducing the beautiful instrumental “The First Loss” in the middle of the album. Kind of surprising is “The Holy Fire Of St. Djezzagh” whose dynamic goes totally out of control being much faster and heavier than the usual of the album. Again, vocalist Tucker Thomasson does a big difference here with the great range of his voice. The same goes with “Altar Of Ukim’s Conflagration” whose Iron Maiden’s influences jump to the eye.

“Adventure Two” is one more great Old School Heavy Metal record. It is great to see Heavy Metal evolving.
