TOOL Booed At Their Own Festival After Disappointing Performance (Video)

TOOL‘s debut destination festival in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, held this weekend, started with promise. The March 7th launch featured a powerful lineup including MASTODON and PRIMUS, but TOOL‘s two headlining sets did not meet expectations.

Despite the premium pricing associated with the destination festival, which included travel and accommodation, TOOL presented remarkably similar setlists on both nights. Notably, they played the same four songs – “Fear Inoculum,” “Rosetta Stoned,” “Pneuma,” and “Jambi” – during both performances. This lack of variation, particularly in a festival setting where attendees expect diverse sets, triggered widespread disappointment.

The frustration reached a boiling point during the second night’s performance. After realizing the band was repeating a significant portion of the previous night’s set, some attendees began to boo, expressing their discontent audibly.

Setlist for both nights was as follows:

Friday, March 07th:

  1. Stinkfist
  2. Fear Inoculum
  3. Rosetta Stoned
  4. Pneuma
  5. Jambi
  6. Schism
  7. The Grudge
  8. The Flood
  9. Invincible
  10. Vicarious” (first time since 2020)

Saturday, March 08th:

  1. Fear Inoculum
  2. Ænema
  3. Rosetta Stoned
  4. Pneuma
  5. Jambi
  6. Descending
  7. Chocolate Chip Trip
  8. Intolerance
  9. Swamp Song

Furthermore, following the festival, an advertisement began circulating on Facebook, purportedly from a lawyer seeking individuals interested in joining a class-action lawsuit against TOOL. The advertisement alleges that the band’s repeated setlists constituted a breach of the festival’s promise of “two unique headlining sets.” A screenshot of this advertisement has also been shared on Reddit, further amplifying the issue. The lawsuit aims to address the financial and emotional distress experienced by fans who felt they were misled by the festival’s promotional materials.
