Verheerer – Urgewalt Review

Verheerer – Urgewalt Review

Black Metal albums are not exactly known for having the most shredders and flaming guitars. It seems to be quite the opposite, the guitars in most albums are not the stars as they would be in other Metal albums. Of course, there are albums with very interesting guitars and I always praise that. This is exactly what happens with Verheerer and “Urgewalt,” an album where the guitars are the black stars. By the way, the term black star exists in astronomy, though it is theoretical. It appears very dark because it draws back almost all light that’s produced.

It is the amazing truth that “Urgewalt” tries to take unknown and uncertain roads to Black Metalville and that’s exactly what makes the album so interesting. Intentionally, as it is a band’s tradition, Verheerer searched for being away from the genre’s clichés producing an album that is very difficult to be labeled. First of all, there are lots of speeches during the songs as they do with “Totenvolk,” I guess in order to give a more cinematic feeling to it. By the way, “Urgewalt” is a very cinematic album, but not in the standard way. It is more the kind of mockery terror B movie.

Ok, again with the guitars. It’s with tracks as “Lungs” that my dear children of the night might realize there is nothing of Black Metal in them. They are much more Old School Heavy Metal or even Old School Death Metal – I am bouncing between both – than Black Metal. Tittle track “Urgewalt” also showcases techniques that are not seem among Black metal albums as the whammy bars. Of course, as it would be expected from a band that varies a lot its repertoire, there are tracks as “Stahlgrab” that sound pretty standard, but different. As I said it is not Verheerer‘s intention to sound standard.

I strongly recommend “Urgewalt” to all Metal fans aficionados who are looking for a band that sounds amazing, but different. The album has different solutions, but those solutions do not turn it into an album that is impossible to mlisten to due to the experiments. “Urgewalt” is not an experimental album, it is an album with different solutions. Only that.

Verheerer “Urgewalt” will be released on April 04th via Vendetta Records.
