VOLA’s Latest Record Showcases IN FLAMES’ ANDERS FRIDÉN As Special Guest Vocalist

Date:

Vola has unveiled their fresh studio collection, Friend of a Phantom, scheduled to be out on November 1st via Mascot Records.

The record kicks off with “Cannibal,” which showcases vocals by Anders Fridén of In Flames. This piece sets the mood for a musical odyssey that transitions from the enchantingly otherworldly “We Will Not Disband” to “Hollow Kid.” Bassist Nicolai Mogensen explains his creative approach for “Hollow Kid”: “I aimed to fuse the essence of Metallica‘s ‘Enter Sandman’ with the low tuning and polyrhythms of Meshuggah. The opening riff of the song was the outcome, sparking the rest of the composition.”

Reflecting on their progression, drummer Adam Janzi expresses: “We have had the chance to internalize Witness and allow its repercussions to settle in, influencing how we approached Friend Of A Phantom. Our individual preferences have evolved, our instruments and songwriting techniques have evolved, our lives have evolved, time has passed, and we’ve embarked on adventures. Whatever trace of melancholy Witness contained has now magnified and become a central element of this new record. I sense that Vola has matured and reached a new phase in its existence, growing up.”

To coincide with the album announcement, the music video for “Break My Lying Tongue” has been released. This track showcases Vola‘s distinct style, amalgamating introspective lyrics with intricate sonic landscapes. Watch it below, and pre-purchase the album here.
