Sabaton is wrapping up another successful tour in support of Judas Priest in North America and prepared a great gift for fans around the world. Their concert film entitled “Sabaton – The Tour To End All Tours” will be screened in 500 North American cinemas for two nights only — October 30 and October 31. The film was recorded at the iconic Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam, where 16,000 fans gathered to watch the band during their 2023 European tour. The production is as big as it gets for Sabaton and showcases their artillery in full effect.
Known for its powerful anthems centered around historical themes, particularly war, and heroism, Sabaton blends epic storytelling with a distinctive sound that combines aggressive riffs, symphonic elements, and commanding vocals. Their lyrics often explore actual battles, military leaders, and acts of bravery from various conflicts throughout history, which earned them a dedicated fanbase. Their live performances feature military imagery and pyrotechnics, and their touring schedule is as hectic as it comes – one could get tired just by looking at their tour itinerary on a piece of paper!
Frontman Joakim Brodén made a name for himself as the voice of Sabaton, but his success as a singer was almost a happy accident. He started his career as a bass player and keyboardist until there was nobody to utter the lyrics on stage and he decided to go for it. From there on, he developed his stage presence, and his voice – at a time when operatic singing was the norm for metal bands – and became one of the trademarks of the band. His distinctive style has now influenced new singers, and yet he remains quite humble about it.
Bravewords collaborator Rodrigo Altaf spoke with Joakim about the upcoming screening of the band’s concert in cinemas, the tour with Judas Priest, plans for the future, and much more.
