Kicking off the week with a cacophonic touch. Couch Slut present an enticing name and an unremitting sound. There’s a mixture of hardcore, punk, and a ton of fury.

Dvne – Voidkind

It feels like there aren’t many bands that merge progressive and sludge in an engaging manner like Dvne can. Voidkind delivers a dynamic auditory journey with plenty of ebbs and fortunately just as many flows. It’s akin to experiencing The Ocean with hints of Baroness and Elder.

Naturally, it took these individuals some time to regain their metalcore momentum after their extensively publicized mishap. Now, they’ve returned with their subsequent album following all that, in a sensible timeframe. Thus, it’s business as usual, and by that, I mean it’s a positive development since it seemed uncertain whether they would return in this capacity. Expect more melodious, catchy tunes that will uplift and inspire you.

Time can be strange. Can you believe it has been half a dozen years since the previous complete High On Fire album? This is the entirety of the distortion and sludge that has been absent. Languid? They have you covered. Packed with energy? Certainly. This marks their initial recording session with unique drummer Coady Willis (Big Business and Melvins) and, as expected, he fits in perfectly. Speaking of (the) Melvins

As you might anticipate, this one is peculiar. Buzz and the gang deliver the murk, unique metal, and more while exploring new territories along the journey. A significant portion of the album showcases two drummers as customary culprit Dale Crover and former Stone Sour drummer Roy Mayorga thrash the living daylights out of you with their drums. Hence, it’s even more crushing than usual.

Enjoy music from My Dying Bride

Fourteenth album from these melancholic doom practitioners is, once again, gloomy and grandiose. Their first release in four years finds them in their characteristic sorrowful and weighty sound. There’s a sense of enigma surrounding this one as they’ve recently axed all their scheduled performances for this year. Thus, relish this one as it might be your sole opportunity to hear them this year.

This is an awesome release that took me by surprise. The group combined the darkness of black metal, the might of power metal, and some melodic death metal elements into a captivating collection. It features memorable melodies and captivating riffs. If you enjoy anything sung by ICS Vortex (like Dimmu Borgir, Arcturus, Borknagar), you’ll definitely appreciate this.

Pearl Jam – Dark Matter

The Weekly Injection: New Releases From HIGH ON FIRE, MY DYING BRIDE, MELVINS & More 4/19

Genre: Grunge/rock
Origin: Seattle, Washington
Label: Monkeywrench

Dark Matter can be seen as another Pearl Jam album that’s difficult to be upset about, unless you generally have issues with Pearl Jam. It includes some laid-back tracks reminiscent of Tom Petty, some rockers with impressive solos, and some grungy tunes. The album was produced by Andrew Watt (Miley Cyrus, Post Malone, Ozzy), giving it a modern touch. If you’ve enjoyed their music since the avocado record, this will likely please you.

Concluding this segment in a strangely familiar yet innovative manner. It’s reminiscent of early 2000s metalcore mixed with present-day experimental mathcore. They’re like a combination of It Dies Today and The Callous Daoboys. A very enjoyable album. Looking forward to a wild mosh pit experience when they open for Better Lovers in a few weeks.
